I was tasked with creating a typographic poster for the show West Side Story by Leonard Bernstein. West Side Story is a story about two rival gangs following a Romeo and Juliet story, with a female member of the Sharks spurring more fighting until ultimately ending in tragedy and ending the rivalry.

Through a long and exciting hands-on process of cutting and scanning papers reading “Love” and “Hate,” I created what is seen as the background of the poster and two main themes of the show. Using overlapping text and incorporating the gang colors, red and blue, we can see the commotion of their paths crossing through the world of hate and love.
